PHOENIX — A rare rainstorm here washed out the golf portion of the Seena Magowitz Golf Classic, but the event still raised almost $300,000 for the fight against pancreatic cancer.
Begun by bedding retailer Roger Magowitz to honor his mother, Seena, who died of pancreatic cancer, the event has become one of the leading pancreatic fundraising activities. More than 200 home furnishings leaders, including representatives of several major bedding producers, attended the event.
A symposium of doctors and researchers went on as scheduled, giving attendees an update on how the medical community is attacking pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest cancers. The awards and educational luncheon was also held.
Magowitz, president of Mattress Discounters of Virginia Beach, Va., was saluted at the event for his efforts.
