Verlo enters Texas
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 2, 2007
Beaumont, Texas — Verlo Mattress Factory Stores, which bills itself as the nation's largest factory-direct bedding retailer, has opened a store here on Eastex Freeway. It is Verlo's first unit in the Lone Star State.
Owned by Eric and Phyllis Lawrence, the new Beaumont operation is 7,000 square feet, with about a third of that dedicated to the retail showroom, and the balance used for warehousing and on-site custom mattress production.
The Lawrences previously operated Cellular Max stores in Beaumont, Port Arthur, Austin and Wichita Falls, Texas, with additional stores in Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Verlo stores offer innerspring mattresses that use Talalay latex, along with memory foam bedding, adjustable airbeds and futons. The associated factory can hand craft mattresses for boats, RVs, campers and pets.
The Lawrences plan to open 2,400- to 3,000-square-foot showroom-only Verlo locations in Lumberton and Mid-County, Texas, with future stores possibly in Orange, Texas, and Lake Charles, La.
Based in Fort Atkinson, Wis., Verlo Mattress Factory Stores operate mainly in the Midwest, with units as far west as Colorado and as far south as Florida and now Texas.
