Exclusive Research: Top 25 Bedding Retailers 2012
David Perry -- Furniture Today, September 5, 2012
Mattress specialist Sleepy's retains its No. 1 ranking atop Furniture Today's list of the Top 25 U.S. Bedding Retailers, with estimated bedding sales last year of $800 million.
But fast-charging Mattress Firm, the publicly held Houston-based mattress retailer, is not far behind, with estimated bedding sales last year of $758.5 million. No. 2 Mattress Firm was the fastest-growing bedding retailer last year in terms of percentage growth, with a 39.5% gain. And it also had more dollar growth last year than any other bedding major, adding $214.9 million in bedding sales. In addition, it added 181 stores last year, many from its acquisition of Mattress Giant, another Texas-based bedding retailer, which ranks No. 11 on the Top 25 list.
This exclusive survey ranks the top 25 bedding retailers based on estimated 2011 sales of conventional mattresses and boxsprings, as well as foam bedding, futons, air beds, adjustable beds and waterbeds. Estimated figures do not include sales of headboards, frames, mattress pads, pillows and other related products.
