MANILA, Philippines — Organizers of the Manila FAME trade show have hired 30-year retail and sourcing veteran James Booth as a project director.
The 56th edition of Manila FAME (Furnishings and Apparel Merchandise Exchange), promoted and organized by the Philippine Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, is set for Oct. 17-20 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
Booth is a former branding and product development executive at Loftex USA, Li & Fung USA, the Natori Co., AMC/Federated Department Stores and Frederick Atkins Department Store Group. In his new role, he will work with local industry officials to set a strategic direction for export development and marketing initiatives.
"The objective is to create a roadmap for executing a concept that will clearly define Manila FAME as the design and lifestyle event of Asia, an event that brings back true craftsmanship and beauty to contemporary living," Booth said.
Booth has lived in Asia for nine years, gaining familiarity with the region's design, indigenous materials and production strengths, officials said.
The theme of the October FAME show is "The Art of the Craftsman = The Soul of the Philippines." This aims to reflect the Philippines' use of natural indigenous materials in the production of home furnishings and also to capture and promote the level of craftsmanship that goes into furniture production in the Philippines.
"The lofty value placed on handmade merchandise stems from the need to satisfy the inquisitive nature of modern-day consumers who want to know the origin of the products they buy and put in their homes, offices and environment," said Rosvi C. Gaetos, CITEM executive director. "This is where Manila FAME comes in - bringing stories of pure craftsmanship to the other side of the world through its showcase of design-driven, high-quality, export-ready merchandise."
The October show continues the collaboration of three major home furnishings and gift trade show events in the Philippines - Manila Now, CebuNext and Bijoux Cebu. In addition to furniture and home accents, Manila FAME also will showcase jewelry, shoes, handbags and other fashion accessories.
