Mealey’s to open fifth store near Philadelphia
Grid2 to design 84,000-square-foot unit

PHILADELPHIA — Mealey’s Furniture & Mattress has hired Grid2 to design its fifth store here, an 84,000-square-foot unit coming to the suburb of Warminster, Pa.
The store, expected to open in the spring in a former Burlington Coat Factory, will reflect an updated brand identity for Mealey’s — which Grid2 also is designing.
In a press release, the company said the new stores will feature the latest trends in furniture retailing including “destination category stores” for bedding and youth furniture with separate entrances for each, a café and an interior emphasizing natural light for a “fresh, inviting atmosphere.”
“Savvy retailers like Mealey’s realize that in today’s competitive marketplace, you must always be evaluating and enhancing your brand identity in order to stay in the game, satisfy consumer expectation and attract new customers,” said Jennifer Magee, the Grid2 senior associate heading the project.
Mealey’s, which has three full-service stores and a clearance center, is led by brothers Dan and Kevin Mealey and was acquired early this year by Dallas-based private equity firm Parallel Investment Partners. It was Parallel’s first venture into the industry.
At the time, Parallel said it planned to grow the business in Philadelphia and had identified potential locations for new stores. Dan Mealey said the new relationship would “allow the company to execute on its long-term growth plans without compromising the dependability and quality of the Mealey’s concept.”
The Mealeys couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.
