Island Home opens in Canada
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 16, 2007
Grand Manan, New Brunswick — Island Home Furniture has opened on Allison Avenue here, next door to the Island Home Hardware Building Center. Beverly Ingalls and Wade Ingalls own the store, which is part of the Home Furniture network.
Beverly Ingalls, whose great-grandfather A. Leroy Ingalls opened the original hardware store in 1901, said, "By adding a furniture store to the already existing Home Hardware, we've created a one-stop shopping destination for everything from decorating to renovating."
In addition to case goods and upholstery, Island Home's 8,600 square feet of selling space features a large bedding section, home décor items and appliances.
Home Furniture has over 70 stores across Canada. It is part of cooperative Home Hardware Stores Ltd., which bills itself as this country's largest dealer-owned network of hardware, lumber, building materials and furniture stores, with over 1,000 locations and retail sales of C$4.6 billion annually.
The cooperative was founded in 1964 by 128 independent hardware dealers.
