Walton Hills, Ohio — Bed frame maker Mantua Mfg. has purchased the assets of West End Hub and Spring Co., or WEHSCO, of Stoughton, Mass.
WEHSCO, in business since 1908, manufactures bed frames comparable to Mantua's for retail accounts and has a strong presence in the hospitality industry, said Edward Weintraub, Mantua's president. It also makes commercial and residential roll-away beds, as well as institutional metal cribs and dormitory beds.
"We feel that this strong assortment of commercial products, added to our growing wood and metal bed base business, will strengthen Mantua's presence in the rapidly growing hospitality industry," Weintraub said. "The companies' philosophies and product mix make for an ideal strategic fit."
The Kessel family has owned and operated WEHSCO since its inception. Joel Kessel will remain active in sales, while his daughter, Adrienne Kessel Fleishman, will handle inside sales for WEHSCO products, and Barnet Kessel will oversee manufacturing and outside sales.
WEHSCO will distribute its own line and Mantua products from its Stoughton, Mass., facility. Mantua's Ohio and Texas plants will manufacture bed frames under the WEHSCO and Mantua brands.
"No other company will have the depth of experience or longevity in the bed frame industry, allowing us to provide the very finest products made anywhere and to be even more innovative," Weintraub said. Mantua now has five manufacturing facilities in the United States.
