Sneed heads uph. maker Affordable

Randolph, Miss. — Jim Sneed has taken over as president of promotional upholstery maker Affordable Furniture here, succeeding Terry Austin, who died recently after a long illness.
The two, former partners in a sales and marketing company, launched Affordable in 2004 and grew it into a company exceeding $30 million during its first two years of operation.
Sneed remains company CEO, a post he has held since the start-up.
He said Affordable's board decided that other members of the company's management team would assume Austin's responsibilities.
"You can't replace somebody like Mr. Austin," said Sneed. "We're going to all close ranks. I won't be traveling as much as I did."
Dale Gray, vice president of manufacturing, will assume some of Austin's operational duties. Austin also was the company's chief operating officer.
Jerry Cowsert, plant manager, will assume some responsibilities formerly held by Gray. Richard Chrestman, personnel manager and purchasing director, also will assume additional duties.
