Flag display table seller targets stores

Company started as online retailer

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, December 26, 2007

HICKORY, N.C. – United Displays, launched early this year as an online retailer of U.S.-made flag display tables, is also selling to retailers and interior designers through a new wholesale division called John Ebert Presents, after founder and President John Ebert.

Retailers can visit www.johnebertpresents.com and view and order product, including cocktail, end and side tables with inset glass tops and display space for memorabilia.

The pieces are made by Hanover, Pa.-based Leister Furniture from solid cherry. Products range from triangular side tables at $449 retail to large rectangular display tables starting at $599 retail.

Ebert is a former marketing executive at Lane and Hickory Chair. His company continues to sell to consumers at www.uniteddisplaysofamerica.com. He said he is satisfied with sales thus far.

“(Consumers) appreciate the recognizable difference in quality in a piece of furniture that is 100% made in America,” said Ebert. “Consumers believe strongly that items such as our flag and U.S. service memorabilia should be displayed in an authentic American-made product.”

He got the idea for the wholesale division after he appeared at three funeral home markets in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The positive response encouraged him to sell to those businesses as well as stores across the United States.

Ebert believes the items will be well received in stores on military bases, and will show different applications to different branches of the military. He doesn’t plan to show the product in High Point or other major furniture markets, but may attend a gift show in New York early next year.

The new wholesale division is creating a sales team, including a sales manager and 15 reps covering different regions of the country.

Ebert said sales so far have been particularly strong on the East Coast between Virginia and Florida. Products will continue to be made, warehoused and shipped from Hanover. Finished product is shipped within seven days of order, he said.
