Antidumping duties roll in

WASHINGTON — A report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection states that domestic producers supporting the antidumping case for Chinese-made wood bedroom furniture collected $27.5 million in duties during fiscal year 2009.
The monies were issued to the companies under the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act. They represent the disbursement of duties that date back several years, but have not officially liquidated or processed for distribution until this year.
According to the report, the following companies received these specific amounts:

The $27.5 million distributed in 2009 was down from $35.8 million sent out in 2008.
The recipients are companies that supported the government's initial 2004 investigation into the sale of Chinese-made bedrooms. The investigation found that Chinese wood producers were selling goods into the United States at unfair prices.
The resulting duties are assigned to the Chinese manufacturers and are paid by their importers of record.
The government also said it is delaying the disbursement of some $37.6 million in duties that may be available to other U.S. manufacturers that were not petitioners in the 2004 investigation. The disbursement of these funds will depend on the outcome of litigation involving two unrelated industries.
Non-petitioners seeking to receive these funds include Ashley Furniture, Ethan Allen, Kimball, Orleans Furniture, Solid Comfort and Standard Furniture.
