De Lisa develops power outlet for motion seats
By Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, January 4, 2010
PHILADELPHIA — Chris De Lisa, a sales executive with manufacturer and importer Home Line Inds., has developed a power source for motion and stationary upholstery that he believes will become a standard furniture add-on for today's gadget-driven, technologically savvy consumer.
The device, for which De Lisa has a patent pending, allows consumers to plug a power cord directly into the arm or side of the furniture. That eliminates the need to move a piece of furniture when an electrical outlet is needed for short-term use by laptop computers, vacuum cleaners, heating pads and a host of other items, he explained.
“In 99% of today's living rooms, most of the outlets are blocked (by furniture), and the outlets that aren't being blocked are already being used,” said De Lisa.
He said the power source would need to be plugged into an electrical outlet on a wall, but that is accomplished with an unobtrusive cord that runs out the back of the piece of furniture.
“In today's homes, the living room is the best place to get work done,” said De Lisa. “This device is perfect for upholstery pieces for that room.”
He said he already has spoken with several upholstery manufacturers who are interested in adding the device to some of their frames. And De Lisa, a former retailer, believes retailers will like it because of its margin-boosting potential.
“It will allow a retailer to make maximum profit because nobody else will have it,” he said.
He said he hopes at least one manufacturer will introduce the power source in the second half of 2010.
