Carpe Diem, Keyton debuting at Toronto show
By Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, January 4, 2010
TORONTO — Two well-known European luxury brands are making their Canadian debut at the Canadian Home Furnishings Market taking place Jan. 9 to 12 at the International Centre here — Carpe Diem, a high-end mattress line; and Keyton, known for its line of massage chairs.
Both brands are represented in Canada by ochVänner Corp.
Carpe Diem describes its beds as the essence of comfort, style and quality, noting its craftsmen take more than 20 hours to produce each individual sleep system with the consumers' choice of color, tension and style of legs.
The beds range from $3,000 to $24,000 retail.
“This is not a mattress; it is a sleep system with style,” said Allan Madonik, vice president of sales. “Consumers who invest in this product understand how a good night's sleep affects your stress level, health, metabolism and mood.”
He added that Carpe Diem is “looking to partner with dealers that have high integrity, understand the luxury space and would like to have exclusive products in their market.”
Carpe Diem is not looking to compete at the $399 to $999 price points, according to Madonik. “There are more than 130 distributors focused on the same thing in Canada. These high-end products allow the dealer to make a higher profit from one sale than from several sales of traditional beds. And they also enable them to earn more dollars per square foot from their existing space.”
Toronto-based ochVänner also will be introducing the Keyton of massage chairs at market.
Madonik noted that Keyton has designed and developed an exclusive line of massage chairs with consumers' needs in mind. In fact, the line has been dubbed the “Rolls Royce of massage chairs” by Jim Bunting of massage-chairs.co.uk.
“Many clients have found the chairs' benefits include reduced levels of insomnia, stress and back pain. These chairs are not only functional but aesthetically pleasing,” said Madonik.
Most massage chairs tend to be placed in dens or recreational rooms, added Madonik. “The Keyton chairs have a contemporary look which allows consumers to place them in more prominent places within the home.”
The companies will be showing in Hall 5 of the International Centre, space 5450.
Each line maintains its own Web site. Carpe Diem Beds' can be found at www.carpediemcanada.com, while Keyton is located at www.keyton.com.
