Pilgrim to open second Connecticut store
Will include eco-friendly features

MILFORD, Conn. — Pilgrim Furniture City of Southington, Conn., will open a second 80,000-square-foot store here with environmentally friendly features as well as some trademark touches.
The store, expected to open in March, involves a $5 million renovation project on 7 1/2 acres across from Costco on Boston Post Road. Connie Post Cos. is collaborating on the remodel, guiding Pilgrim “in designing a unique approach to furniture shopping, which will make the experience as consumer-friendly as possible.”
In a press release, Pilgrim owner and President Mike Albert said the retailer is a supporter of the state governor’s environmental campaign and is working with the state for a grant to use solar panels. It’s also working with Tri-Star Services of Danbury, Conn., to install a highly energy-efficient heating and air conditioning system.
“I think it’s time that businesses take a more active role in protecting the environment,” Albert said. “We’ve done a lot of research with our new development and have incorporated as many environmentally sound systems and strategies as we could.”
Pilgrim plans to open two 12-foot clerestory windows on the roof to cut down on the showroom’s lighting usage.
The store will have two revolving platforms near the entrance to showcase best sellers and new fashion trends. It also will feature a café, and Pilgrim’s trademark carousel near the entrance.
The company also noted that the new store will bring together three one-time competitors with connections to furniture-retailing families in Connecticut —Albert; the project developer David Rubin, who is related to the former owners of Wayside Furniture; and Pilgrim co-owner and Vice President Steve Bichunsky, whose family owned Meriden Auction Rooms.

i agree with the other two commetns i purchased a dining set that cost me about 1,000 to so far on deliver my table was cracked from underneath looks like it was dropped then less than a month later one of the chairs becomes loose then a week later a part breaks off and to find out the chair has no screws in it for support or to keep the furniture together so far i have had it for about 7 weeks and it''''s terrible
