Art Van Furniture teaming up with ‘Days of Our Lives' stars to help charity
Donating truckloads of furniture to Detroit rescue mission

WARREN, Mich. — Art Van Furniture is teaming up with cast members of the long-running daytime drama "Days of Our Lives" and local NBC affiliate WDIV Channel 4 to help the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Genesis House III.
Art Van will donate truckloads of goods including 50 mattress sets, bed frames, nightstands and dressers to Genesis House III, which provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, treatment and case management services for women and children in need.
All of the metro Detroit-area Art Van stores also are collecting donations of toiletries and cleaning supplies for the house from Jan. 8 to Jan. 18. Items needed include travel-size shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, soap and washcloths, as well as laundry and dish soap.
"These donations will benefit the lives of hundreds of homeless women and children," said Art Van Elslander, chairman and founder of the Top 100 chain. "Providing a few of the comforts of home - even just the little things - can make a big difference."
To celebrate the campaign and draw attention to the cause, "Days of Our Lives" cast members Shawn Christian ("Dr. Daniel Jonas") and Nadia Bjorlin ("Chloe Lane") will make appearances at four Art Van Furniture stores for autographs and photos on Jan. 16 (noon to 1 p.m. at the Warren store and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Taylor store) and Jan. 17 (noon to 1 p.m. at the Lakeside store and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Novi store). Guests also can enter at any Art Van store or on the Web site through Jan. 18 to win a trip for two to Los Angeles for a tour of the set of "Days of Our Lives," thanks to WDIV and the show's producers.
