Finger closing store in Sharpstown Center
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 13, 2008
Houston — Finger Furniture is closing its 65,000-square-foot store in the Sharpstown Center here, part of its previously announced strategy of closing older stores as new showrooms open.
Finger was a fixture in the center, "but it's not a viable retail environment anymore," said Jim Sperrazza, executive vice president of merchandising and marketing. With the recent opening of its Willowbrook store, and with others on the drawing board, "it just doesn't make sense to stay there any longer," he said.
Finger opened the 93,000-square-foot Willowbrook unit in northwest Houston in October, and plans another large store in Houston's Woodlands suburb in early 2009. It also is looking at possible stores in the Katy and Baybrook areas of metro Houston.
That's in addition to its rollout of Ashley Furniture HomeStores. Finger closed its store in the Pasadena suburb last year. The Sharpstown store is expected to close in about 30 to 45 days, Sperrazza said.
