ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The bedding industry's emerging rebound got another boost, with units and dollars both posting increases in November.
The International Sleep Products Assn. said its November Bedding Barometer report showed that bedding shipments in units were up 5.7% in November, compared with the same month last year. The dollar value of those shipments was up 9.8%.
Bedding units posted their first monthly increase of 2009 in September, when they were up 3.6% from a year earlier. Units were up 3.5% in October. The dollar value of bedding shipments first made it into positive territory in October, with a 6.2% increase.
The average unit selling price in November was up 3.8% from a year ago, ISPA aid.
Bedding observers hailed the results as positive developments for an industry that has endured years of unit and dollar declines.
While the trends in November were positive, year-to-date results remain poor, the ISPA report indicated. Bedding units were down 10.8% through November, while the dollar value of bedding shipments was down 11.4% in that same time period.
The results reflect the performance of 18 U.S. bedding producers who account for about 46% of overall industry units and 56% of the dollar value of those shipments, ISPA said.
