NEW YORK — More than 400 industry members were on hand here as the Greater New York Home Furnishings Assn. honored the Goldberg family of Raymour & Flanigan with its top honor, the Jerry Gans Memorial Award.
At the 89th annual dinner dance, industry veteran Norman Waxman and Andy Gans, Magnussen Home representative and chairman of the dinner dance committee, presented the award on the behalf of the Gans family to Neil, Steve and Michael Goldberg of Liverpool, N.Y.-based Raymour.
A surprise for the evening came when the stars of “Cake Boss” on TLC and owners of a local bakery, Buddy Valastro and Mauro Castano, presented the Goldbergs with a five-tier cake sponsored by industry members including Berkline, Samson Marketing, MGM Transport, CBS Radio, AICO, Shaw Living, HSBC and others.
The cake was later donated to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y., where it fetched about $800 in an auction during an adopt-a-family benefit.
Chris DeLisa of Homeline Inds. and president of GNYHFA, and Barbara Goldstein, GNYHFA executive director, thanked the dinner dance committee for its hard work.
“This is an event that galvanizes the industry as one and brings manufacturers, manufacturers' representatives, retailers and suppliers into one room one night a year and makes us feel as one,” the association said.
