Stylution acquires Wickline assets

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Chinese bedding major Stylution International is ready to establish a mattress manufacturing presence in the U.S. market with its recent acquisition of the assets of Wickline Bedding.
Documents filed with U.S. Bankruptcy Court indicate that Stylution paid $300,000 to acquire the physical assets and intellectual property of Wickline, a 50-year-old independent bedding producer that ceased operations last fall and filed for Chapter 7 liquidation. The assets were purchased at a bankruptcy auction.
Ed Scott, president of Stylution USA, the U.S. sales arm of Dongguan, China-based Stylution International, said Stylution is leasing the Wickline factory here.
“We will operate the facility to produce and distribute product,” Scott said. “We will supplement China production with local production in order to provide better service to U.S. retailers.”
Scott said Stylution will produce and sell Stylution products as well as Sleep Therapy-branded products — a brand that was owned by Wickline. “We will also be exporting products back to Asia, particularly Japan, Taiwan and China,” he added.
Stylution is planning to display some of the new bedding products at the Las Vegas Market, which runs Feb. 1-5.
Wickline was a well-known independent bedding producer. The company was founded in 1949 and was purchased by former Simmons executive Ray Malkiewicz in 1978. Several members of his family were involved in the business when it ceased operations last fall.
Stylution entered the U.S. bedding market several years ago and produces a broad line of specialty and innerspring models, some of which are compressed in China for shipment to U.S. retailers. The producer says it offers a strong value story for retailers looking to add margin to their bedding departments.
