Michael Jay Stockton, Phillips Collection
Chaing Mai, Thailand — Michael Jay Stockton, Southeast Asia export agent for the Phillips Collection, died in his sleep on Jan. 7. He was 53.
Stockton was founder and partner in the international trading company StocktonGage. A pioneer and advocate of the "green movement," he also gave to causes in northern Thailand and to the City of Hope Women's and Children's Center in his native Dallas. Stockton encouraged Phillips and his other clients to work only with salvaged and authorized woods.
"It was with him that we developed our Origins collection of one-of-a-kind Colossal Root furniture, as well as our Colossal Teakwood Horses, made from scraps of recycled teak," said Jason Phillips, creative director of the Phillips Collection.
The Phillips Collection will dedicate its Las Vegas Market to Stockton's memory.
He is survived by his wife, three children, three stepchildren and his mother.

Thomas Haynes Shores Sr., Classic Leather
Hickory, N.C. — Thomas Haynes Shores Sr., founder and chairman of domestic leather upholstery manufacturer Classic Leather, has died. He was 73.
His son Tommy Shores Jr. is president of Classic Leather, which includes Statesville Chair, specializing in fabric upholstery, and St. Timothy Chair, its contract unit.
Family-owned Classic Leather was founded June 21, 1966 by Tom Shores Sr., his brother and his wife, Sara Shores, who survives him.
A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Shores was a member of its varsity basketball team in the mid-1950s. His love of sports continued in his support of UNC Athletics, his coaching and playing softball and his years of coaching youth sports in Hickory.
He was an Army veteran and a board member of UNC Education Foundation. In addition to his wife and his son, Shores is survived by two daughters and eight grandchildren.
