50 other exhibitors open doors

High Point — The Forbidden City Furniture Show helped more than just Lifestyle Enterprise as about 50 other exhibitors opened their doors here last week.
It was the third annual show organized by Lifestyle Enterprise, which invited hundreds of retailers and paid for their airfare and lodging. In addition to spending time at Lifestyle, many retailers visited other showrooms as well.
"This gives us quality time with some of the best retailers in the industry," said Bill Vaughan, chairman and CEO of Vaughan Furniture.
"We're excited about having Lifestyle pull people in," said Charles Foster, CEO of case goods importer American Woodcrafters.
Fine Furniture Design & Marketing used the Forbidden City show to prepare customers for a hefty premarket load with four collection totaling about 130 pieces, not including additional SKUs for second finishes.
Case goods importer BK Home Furniture showed sketches of three new contemporary case goods collections planned for the April market.
"The retailer is looking for exciting product that will bring excitement to their store," said President Bill Kemp. "The same-old, same-old isn't exciting any more."
Orleans showed six new bedroom groups and additions to its fireplace cabinet line.
Legacy Traditions by Millenia USA had four new night-stands, sent here by air freight. Jack DeBonis, general manager for U.S. operations, said getting the goods in early helped him and his clients see that one of the cherry finishes had a little orange undertone that could be changed.
James Riddle, marketing director, said Lifestyle is committed to High Point and not Las Vegas. If other exhibitors are open, it just adds more impact to the event, he added.
World Imports, a Philadelphia-based full-line distributor that opened its first High Point showroom in October, offered promotional deals including a five-piece marble-topped dining room group for $250 FOB, a bedroom set at $399 FOB and a leather-look polyurethane/microfiber "chofa" — a sofa/chaise combination — for $149 FOB.
