TUPELO, Miss. — Restonic Mattress is once again sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity home to be built at the Tupelo Furniture Market this week for a Mississippi family.
It is the second Habitat project Restonic has helped organize at Tupelo. The four-bedroom, 1,325-square-foot home will go to a mother and four children whose home was destroyed by a fire.
A foundation for the new home has already been prepared, said David Clark, a sales manager for Restonic. Square Foot Ministry of Fayetteville, Ga., is handling the labor, planning and construction for the home.
Restonic was a major sponsor last year and is trying to raise more donations from other market attendees this year.
"We're in the furniture business and it kind of makes sense we support those who build homes. We're trying to get some help behind it," Clark said.
Financial contributions are best, he said, adding that $500 to $1,000 for the Square Foot Ministry, which relies on volunteers to build homes, will go a long way.
"In the furniture industry you could spend that on a dinner, but that kind of money could really change someone's life," Clark said. "If we could raise $10,000 a year we could frame up 10 homes a year."
But, he added, donations of furnishings will be accepted as well.
"The people we serve don't always have furniture suitable to put in a new house, so there's always that. And we get some of that during the market. And, especially accessories, are always nice," said Wesley Partin, a construction manager Habitat for Humanity.
Donations can be made through the Habitat for Humanity Web site, in care of the Tupelo office. For more information about donations, Clark can be located in space 1327during the market, which runs Friday through Sunday.
The framed Habitat home will be in Tupelo's Building One, near Restonic's space.
"We'd also like to thank the Tupelo Market and V.M. Cleveland for what they've done to make this happen and donating 100% of the space," Clark said.
At the conclusion of the market, the home will be moved to its foundation and finished. The home will be moved by Trailer Transport Service of Tupelo.
