Stanley Furniture to lay off 190 workers
Includes 150 permanent, 40 temporary employees
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 19, 2010
STANLEYTOWN, Va. — Case goods manufacturer Stanley Furniture plans to lay off 150 hourly workers and 40 temporary workers at its Stanleytown plant over the next two months, according to a report in the Martinsville Bulletin.
The paper said the layoff will leave the company with more than 750 workers locally, including 700 in Stanleytown.
Company President Glenn Prillaman told the paper that economic conditions are causing the layoffs. However, he said the company will remain a domestic producer in addition to an importer and has no plans to shift production overseas.
