Overlap with Surfaces show seen as a plus
Lissa Wyman -- Furniture Today, January 27, 2008
Las Vegas — This year's Las Vegas Market overlaps this year with the annual Las Vegas Surfaces Expo for the floor covering industry.
In the past, rug exhibitors have used the Surfaces venue to reach floor covering specialty stores. Since the World Market Center was built, many rug vendors have opted out of Surfaces in favor of a permanent showroom at the WMC.
The fact that the Surfaces event, held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, takes place during the last three days of the Las Vegas Market is seen as a plus for many vendors who now show only at the WMC. While no formal transportation system exists between the two shows, many WMC exhibitors plan to shuttle floor covering buyers from the Sands to the WMC on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
"The combination of Surfaces with the World Market adds up to even more excitement in the marketplace," said Amir Loloi, president of Loloi Rugs.
Some companies with both broadloom and rugs, such as Nourison and Kane Carpet, will show in both locales. Couristan, another major producer of both broadloom and rugs, will show only at Surfaces.
"We have a long-term commitment to the floor covering business, so our core customer is still at Surfaces," said Stephen Hoberman, national sales manager for rugs at Kane Carpet. "At the same time, rugs are the fastest-growing segment of our business, so we want to present our story to the home furnishings retail segment at the World Market Center."
