F/T taps Evans, Gunin to cover fabric category

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 27, 2008

Gary Evans and Joan Gunin have been named co-editors of Furniture/Today's fabric beat.

Evans, who also serves as Furniture/Today's upholstery and retail technology editor, will be the lead reporter in the fabric category for the paper, handling news coverage and contributing to special reports.

Gunin, Furniture/Today's leather and motion upholstery editor, will contribute feature stories, people-oriented news and other fabric-related coverage.

"These two veteran reporters will team up to provide our readers with the information they need to stay on top of trends in this fast-changing, design-oriented arena," said Ray Allegrezza, editor in chief. "They will be giving special attention to the increasingly global nature of the business and the strategies U.S. sources are using to grow their sales."

Evans first joined Furniture/Today in 1979 as case goods editor. He later was group editor for other publications in the company before leaving in 1990. For 10 years, he worked in community newspapers, including serving as editor of The Times of Thomasville (N.C.). In 2000, he rejoined Furniture/Today as business editor, handling business news and analysis stories. In 2001, he was named upholstery editor.

Gunin joined Furniture/Today in 1998 as upholstery editor after seven years with sister publication Home Textiles Today in New York, where she covered the marketing and merchandising of a range of textile products, including kitchen and bath. Her background includes seven years of daily newspaper experience.

Gary Evans can be reached by phone at (336) 605-1087 and by e-mail at glevans@reedbusiness.com. Joan Gunin can be reached by phone at (336) 605-1127 and by e-mail at jgunin@reedbusiness.com.
