MONROE, Mich. — La-Z-Boy has named two veteran retail and marketing executives, Janet Gurwitch and Edwin J. Holman, to its board of directors.
The board has been temporarily expanded to 13 members until August, when two long-term directors, Rocque Lipford and Jack L. Thompson, will retire.
Gurwitch heads Gurwitch Consulting Group. She was a co-founder of Laura Mercier Cosmetics, which she and her partner, Neiman Marcus, sold to Amway. Earlier, she was executive vice president of Neiman Marcus, and began her career at Foley's Department Store, where she rose to vice president of merchandising.
Holman is chairman of The Pantry, a publicly held chain of convenience stores in the Southeast. Previously, he was CEO of Macy's Central, a division of Macy's department stores, and earlier was a top executive at sporting goods retailer Galyans Trading Co. and Bloomingdale's department store.
"Both Janet and Edwin are welcome additions to our board and they will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to our company during a time of industry transition," said Kurt Darrow, La-Z-Boy president and CEO. "In addition to Janet's long history in retailing, her expertise in consumer products, marketing and growing brands uniquely positions her to provide insight into our consumer base and the fashion component of furniture purchases.
"At the same time, Edwin brings a wealth of experience from a career spanning more than 30 years in retailing. He has a proven track record of growing retail businesses and understands the dynamics of the marketplace."
