NEW YORK — Small business financing specialist CIT Group has named Peter J. Tobin acting CEO. Tobin, 64, will serve until a new CEO is appointed.
He replaces Jeffrey M. Peek, whose resignation took effect Jan. 15.

He retired from St. John's University in May 2005, having served as a special assistant in corporate relations and development to the university president since September 2003.
Before that, he was dean of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. Johns since August 1998. He was chief financial officer of the Chase Manhattan Corp. from March 1996 through December 1997 and was chief financial officer of Chemical Banking Corp. from January 1992 to March 1996.
CIT's Board of Directors continues its search for a permanent CEO. Once named, that individual will also serve on the board.
