Ligo moves into larger High Point showroom
By Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, January 27, 2008
High Point — Casual dining and occasional importer Ligo Products has moved to a larger showroom here, the prominent ground-floor spot in the National Furniture Mart once occupied by PeopLoungers.
The move will help support a growing product line at Ligo, which is expanding into youth bedroom furniture and flat-panel TV stands.
Ligo's new 19,000-square-foot space is a step up from the 17,000-square-foot showroom the company has occupied for five years on the eighth floor of the National Furniture Mart.
"We could not ask for a better location than this new showroom right on Main Street," said Dan Angus, senior vice president of sales and marketing.
"This move will allow us to show a broader range of products in a very accessible location."
At the April High Point Market, Ligo plans to introduce 15 plasma TV stand configurations and four youth sets at medium price points. The company also will have 27 new casual dining sets and seven new occasional groups at the market.
None of the new products was in the showroom during last week's Forbidden City Show organized by Lifestyle Enterprise, but customers got a preview of the new space when they visited the showroom.
The new youth bedroom product will include two veneered groups, one hand-painted and one using pine solids. Both are produced in Vietnam.
This isn't the first time the company has ventured into bedroom furniture. It launched master bedroom in late 2003, only to find that its price points were not competitive. Ligo later discontinued the program.
Despite that setback, Angus said the company believes the time is right to enter the youth segment.
"The reason why we are doing it is that the middle and better price points in youth have had such a huge jump in sales," he said. "I have shown pictures to everyone that has been here and they are anxious to see it."
