Brazilian furniture design competition to run in conjunction with Movelsul
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 27, 2008
Bento Goncalves, Brazil — A competition in traditional furniture design will be held in conjunction with Movelsul Brasil 2008, Brazil's largest furniture show, scheduled for March 24–28.
The competition, which has drawn as many as 5,665 entries, highlights innovation in the Brazilian furniture industry and shows trends to furniture manufacturers in both domestic and international markets.
Held every two years in conjunction with Movelsul, the competition offers US$50,000 as prize money and is open to professionals, students and Brazilian furniture manufacturers. Entries are exhibited in a special 3,000-square-foot area at Movelsul, enabling contact and exchange of information between manufacturers and designers — the competition's main goal.
Entries this year are from 14 countries, including Italy, Spain and France.
The 16th edition of the show, held every two years, will include 400 Brazilian furniture manufacturers and is held in an area known for furniture production. The last show, in 2006, attracted importers from 61 countries.
