AmericasMart resets Jan. rug show dates
Event will be held Jan. 7 to Jan. 11

ATLANTA -- There will be a slight change in timing for next January's International Rug Market as the event moves up one day. The rug show now will run Wednesday, Jan. 7 through Sunday, Jan 11, 2009.
In the past, the rug market had a Thursday to Sunday format. Under the new timing, the rug market will be part of the larger Gift & Home Furnishings Market, which will run from Tuesday, Jan. 6 through Wednesday, Jan. 14.
This change should help stimulate additional business for rug exhibitors, according to Chas Sydney, senior vice president for area rugs and external business development at the AmericasMart. Rug vendors can expect more furniture store and home interiors attendees at the rug show thanks to the new dates.
Sydney also said that there is a boom in hotel building in downtown Atlanta, which means there will be more than enough hotel rooms for attendees and exhibitors at both shows.
Sydney said the Mart’s management is determined to keep pace with the changing needs of the home furnishings business. The Mart’s new Building Two West Wing will be open by January ‘09, allowing product categories to be reorganized.
“Rugs will stay in the same place in Building One but we will move garden and gourmet to the new building and add mid- to high-end furniture to Building One,” Sydney said.
