SAN FRANCISCO — A new online resource that sells furniture direct from factories in China is launching in California in early February, and a national rollout is planned over the next six weeks. The San Francisco-based company is called Myfab.com. It sells high-end designer furniture direct from the factory and is expected to save consumers 50% to 80% off the retail prices of comparable product. The company said the savings occurs through the elimination of "intermediaries, high margins, overstock and costly retail outlets."
The company has a similar business model in Europe, where it reportedly has an estimated 100,000 customers in France, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. The U.S. operation is being headed up by former Macys.com executive Kara Parsons. She will be responsible for growing the company's sales in the United States.
"The Myfab.com business model is unique and will resonate with today's savvy consumer," she said. "Offering a perfect shopping outlet for the home design enthusiast, Myfab.com brings the democratization of design, coupled with the belt tightening mentality of the American shopper. Shoppers today demand access to style and taste for their surroundings, without the steep price tag."
Visitors to the site can vote for the designs they like and the ones with the highest number of votes will be part of the product offerings. The most popular items will be on sale for seven days and pieces will be produced during a one-month production cycle.
Customers can view different stages of the production process and also track their order online. The product is then shipped direct from the factory to their home.
