El Dorado to open 11th store
Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, February 3, 2008
Coconut Creek, Fla. — El Dorado Furniture will break ground here on El Dorado Home Furnishings Center, a development that will house the Top 100 company's 11th store as well as other businesses.
At 92,000 square feet, the store will be one of the retailer's largest and will feature its signature Boulevard streetscape format.
The 154,000-square-foot shopping center will have additional space for lease to other home-related businesses, including space for a 62,000-square-foot junior tenant — a national or regional furniture chain — as well as two out-parcels for restaurant and bank use, not included in the square-footage number.
El Dorado Chief Operating Officer Pedro Capo said the company is excited to be developing its first home furnishings center, something consumers have been asking the retailer to do for several years.
"The challenge now is to get the right mix," Capo said. He hesitated to project sales for the store because of Florida's difficult business climate, but said El Dorado is hoping for first-year volume of $18 million to $20 million.
The groundbreaking event took place last week on the 17-acre site at Sawgrass Expressway and Lyons Road. The project will be built by Stiles Construction and leased by Continental Real Estate, with completion and El Dorado's store opening expected in early 2009.
