Eclipse, Eastman show new product in new space

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. —
Eclipse and Eastman House, two brands in the Mattress Development Co. portfolio, head to the Las Vegas Market with a new permanent showroom, new product lines and a new overseas licensing executive.
Eclipse and Eastman House will show off their new wares at their Las Vegas Market showroom, World Market Center C-1538.
It should be a strong market for the bedding company, said Stuart Carlitz, the bedding veteran who owns Mattress Development and is CEO of Eclipse and Eastman House.
“As the Eclipse and Eastman House brands continue to grow both domestically and internationally, we have had requests to show a greater representation of our lines,” Carlitz said. “Our new showroom will house products manufactured by three of our licensees. The new showroom also will provide more than triple the space and the number of models to be displayed.”
The companies are bringing a number of new products to market. Eclipse continues to focus on its green bedding line, featuring organic cotton fabrics, bio-based foams and natural latex. The line features the company's new Zoned Quilt Technology, which provides additional lumbar support and greatly reduces body impressions, Carlitz said.
Eastman House will continue its focus on coil-on-coil innerspring beds, with hand-tufted designs and hand-stitched and embroidered borders.
In addition, Mattress Development will be introducing what Carlitz described as “a well-known brand,” which is making its bedding debut.
The new president in the Eclipse and Eastman House organization is a well-known bedding figure: Jerry Gershaw, founder and former CEO of Therapedic, a Top 10 bedding brand.
Gershaw will serve as the liaison between Carlitz and the overseas licensees of Eclipse and Eastman House. He brings more than 50 years of bedding experience to that position, Carlitz noted. In addition to making Eclipse and Eastman House bedding, Mattress Development Co. is also a Therapedic licensee, a relationship that originally brought Carlitz and Gershaw together.
“Jerry's vast experience in licensing, as the founder and father of Therapedic, will certainly help us grow and develop the Eclipse and Eastman House brands,” Carlitz said.
Gershaw's position with Eclipse and Eastman House was announced following the resolution of litigation between Gershaw and Carlitz.
“I'm extremely pleased that Jerry and I have settled our differences,” Carlitz said. “We realized that there were outside influences that caused and prolonged our dispute. Now that we're back together, we can focus on what we both much enjoy — building our business and our relationships within this great industry.”
Before joining Eclipse and Eastman House, Gershaw most recently was head of international licensing for Therapedic International, the licensor of the Therapedic brand.
