Burglars hit Sigla showroom in High Point

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 1, 2010

Sigla Furniture President Ben Bakian said his showroom here was broken into in January, resulting in an estimated $38,000 loss in furniture, computers and other office equipment.

Bakian said he traveled from California to visit the 112 S. Elm St. showroom about two weeks ago and immediately noticed that some barstools were missing at the lunch counter.

When he went to the second floor, he saw that some glass was broken near the entrance to the patio area and that phone lines and a security system had been tampered with. Computers, printers, a vacuum cleaner and other office equipment were missing.

Bakian said that 27 barstools and 38 lounge chairs also were missing. They had a wholesale value of about $28,000. He filed a report with the High Point Police Department, which is investigating the incident.

Bakian said he intended to show many of these samples at the Feb 1-5 Las Vegas Market. He is having some of those pieces redone at his Los Angeles-area factory in time for the show.
