NHFA adds online tools

HIGH POINT —
The National Home Furnishings Assn. has added a glossary to its consumer Web portal HomeFurnishings.com and is stepping up promotion of the site's room planner tool.
More than 2,000 industry terms from “accent furniture” to “X-chair” are defined in the glossary, which also includes some photos.
The glossary should help consumers better understand industry lingo, so “when a salesperson is talking about welts on a sofa, the consumer will know it's not big red blotches but the covered cord used to strengthen or decorate a seam or form the edge on a cushion,” NHFA said.
HomeFurnishings.com also carries regularly updated reference articles covering topics such as furniture care, wood types and furniture styles.
The room planner isn't a new feature, but will be promoted heavily now as a tool that lets consumers explore various room arrangements with a few clicks of a mouse. Found on the site's “Plan” tab, the planner allows consumers to select their room shape, enter dimensions, then drag in, modify and arrange structural elements and furniture.
NHFA and HomeFurnishings.com also recently launched a “color visualizer” tool, with 50 virtual room scenes in which consumers can change the color and materials of walls, floors, ceilings and more.
