Las Vegas Market: Value-priced occasional drawing interest
Retailers are hungry for items to spur impulse purchases
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, February 2, 2010
LAS VEGAS — Occasional and accent vendors are having success with value-priced merchandise aimed at spurring impulse purchases among consumers who are still leery of large- ticket purchases.
Progressive Furniture is seeing strong dealer interest here in promotional three-pack occasional table groups retailing from $179 to $299, including a number that were shown in High Point in October.
A new group called Meadowview, an updated Mission-inspired group that includes a $229 lift-top cocktail and a similar priced sofa table, also is receiving strong dealer response.
HomElegance reports strong interest and commitments on three-pack contemporary groups retailing between $279 and $299 and new accent chairs in different fabric and color choices ranging from $169 for a ready-to-assemble type of chair to $189 for a new swivel model.
The company also is drawing a good response with two other contemporary table groups -- a shaped metal base model with glass top retailing at $299 and a glass-top cocktail with flared wood base and chrome inserts retailing at $249. The latter builds on a successful dining group.
Powell Co. is featuring five new accent tables in a variety of style influences from mid-century modern to Asian/Mackintosh and country French. Dealers like the sharp $79 to $99 retail price points as well as the drawer and shelf storage feature. They also like the versatility of the pieces, which can be used in a variety of room settings, said Karen Knoch, vice president of merchandising.
Storage also is a selling point for two new cocktail ottomans retailing from $249 to $299 and 15 new entertainment consoles retailing from $99 to $299.
Magnussen Home Furnishings' occasional introductions include Lino, a glass-top group with bentwood frames. Retailing at $399, the group's contemporary design and two accompanying stools won kudos from dealers.
Magnussen also is having success with 12 table groups and six entertainment consoles that it brought out at the October High Point Market.
Traffic was steady through early afternoon Monday and dealers seemed to be in upbeat spirits said Richard Magnussen, president and CEO.
