Simmons, Big Tree team up on futons

Licensed line to launch in April

ATLANTA — Bedding major Simmons has signed a licensing agreement with Big Tree Furniture for a new collection of branded innerspring futon mattresses.

Big Tree, which makes futon mattresses, frames, and covers under the Big Tree and Big Sleep brand names, will use the Simmons and Simmons Beautyrest brand names for the new collection.

The new line, which will feature full- and queen-size mattresses, will be launched in April.

“Futons are an essential part of our licensing portfolio and fit a specific consumer need, so we are thrilled to be working with an innovative, high-quality futon provider like Big Tree,” said Tim Oakhill, executive vice president of marketing at Simmons.

Oakhill said entry-level models will feature an open-coil innerspring design, while higher priced models will incorporate a specially designed four-inch Beautyrest Pocketed Coil innerspring unit.

“We believe that Simmons innerspring and Pocketed Coil designs will provide our customers with the perfect balance of comfort and support during the night,” said Bob Pecoraro, president of Big Tree.
