MONTREAL — Cantrex has named industry veteran Patrick Kelly director of its furniture network and retail programs, a new post within the group's furniture, bedding and appliance division.
Based out of the group's office in the Toronto suburb of Vaughan, Kelly's role will be to develop strong relationships with the group's furniture supplier base.
"He will be taking the existing retail and network programs to the next level in addition to introducing new ones to improve the competitiveness and profitability of retailer-members," Cantrex said in a statement. "Kelly's mandate will also be to update our furniture networks to accelerate their Canadian growth."
Cantrex said creating this position is part of its strategy to strengthen its leadership position in the Canadian furniture industry.
"We're confident that Patrick's extensive work experience will be an asset to the team and will contribute actively to our growth objectives," said Jean Favreau, vice president of furniture, appliances and bedding for Cantrex.
Until recently, Kelly was director of sales and marketing for Donald Choi Canada, a Waterloo, Ontario-based furniture importer and distributor. His responsibilities included managing the Canadian sales force, inventory and costing, as well as developing product concepts and designs.
Prior to that, Kelly had a 30-year career with Sears Canada, working in retail operations, merchandising and procurement. He held a number of positions, including buyer for the furniture and bedding categories. He was also responsible for developing the department store's private label Sears-O-Pedic mattress line.
He served as president of the Better Sleep Council of Canada in 2003.
Kelly will report to Favreau.
