High Point Market Authority sees better days ahead
Spring 2010 Business Outlook provides insights into sales prospects
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 5, 2010
HIGH POINT — This year should be a better for home furnishings retailers as the ground for economic recovery continues to be laid, according to the High Point Market Authority's just-released Spring 2010 Business Outlook.
The report draws on recent economic data and consultations with retailers. It also details strategies that retailers are using to position themselves for growth and lessons learned in the last 18 months.
It includes statistics on consumer interest in purchasing home furnishings this year and outlines indicators of a growing economy. It also discusses how the effects of unemployment continue to weigh heavily on economic growth.
"Reports from retailers across the country and industry experts from a variety of fields, as well as year-end numbers from 2009, suggest that we are back on the road to recovery," said Brian Casey, president and CEO of the Market Authority.
"While none of the leading retailers we interviewed sugarcoated their experiences over the past year by any means, we found their responses to be thoughtful and upbeat."
The report contains insights from officials with the National Home Furnishings Assn., Nell Hill's, Wolf Furniture, La Difference and Raymour & Flanigan, among others.

At least I can put my name up here Ohio retailer. You and I would be remiss if you did not admit that these comments sections have gone over the line several times. When comments sections go too far most any and all publishers in any online news site will remove comments for inappropriateness. We are not unique in this manner. You are unique in thinking we are.
You also must not read out research reports or bother to look for coverage of small to mid-size dealers. I can think of few examples too where we haven't covered a small to mid-size dealer expanding.
And Ascot, the Market Authority was created to organize and promote the market (think of something similar to Koelnmesse). It was and is a good idea. Nowhere among its duties are fostering cultural and economic growth in High Point. That is the responsibility of your city council, mayor, city manager, arts council, etc. etc. etc. If you don't like High Point, move.
That's my last comment.

Well said Ascot. I feel Heath your comments are quite unprofessional what hurts furniture today is when you guys stick you head in the sand and only protect who deal with you personally, you said it. Why don't you talk to the smaller to mid dealer instead of top 100 companies same old people. Furniture today isn't worth the paper it's typed on. Home Furnishings Business is twice the paper and it's free. They get OUT and report not chase down or call the same ole top 100 people. There was nothing but the truth stated and someone whined enough or threaten not to advertise and you removed the comments to protect them.
Just like the whole Jeff Cook story what a joke and shame on furniture today for such garbage and everyone agreed and you removed all the comments you were called out on it yet no response, hmm............

Nobody's afraid to show any of your comments. But when most of your comments are lies that defame someone who we deal with personally for stories, what do you expect? Those comments hurt Furniture/Today. If you want to talk like that, go to the playground and have them meet you under the swing set.
