U.S. to investigate innerspring dumping

ITC votes to proceed with inquiry

David Perry -- Furniture Today, February 14, 2008

WASHINGTON — The U.S. International Trade Commission has voted to continue an investigation of innerspring units shipped into the country from China, South Africa and Vietnam.

The ITC determined that there is a reasonable indication that a U.S. industry is materially injured or threatened by imports of uncovered innerspring units from China, South Africa and Vietnam that allegedly are being sold at less than fair value.

All six ITC commissioners voted to continue the investigation, the ITC said.

As a result, it said, the Department Commerce will conduct its antidumping investigation. Its preliminary determinations are due June 9.

The antidumping petition was filed late last year by Leggett & Platt, the largest U.S. innerspring producer, on behalf of the domestic innerspring industry.
