Read named president, treasurer of Specialty Sleep Assn.
Nermon, Miller, Boyd also in leadership posts

FRIANT, Calif. — Dale Read, editor-in-chief and publisher of Bedroom Magazine, is the new president and treasurer of the Specialty Sleep Assn.
Also elected to leadership posts in the trade group were retailer Michael Nermon of Ergo Customized Comfort, Irvine, Calif., who was named vice president, and producers Mark Miller of Innomax and Denny Boyd of Boyd Specialty Sleep, who were elected board members. Boyd is immediate past president of the group.
“The specialty sleep category today represents 23% of bedding sales and is expected to rise to 40% or more by 2010. There has never been a more exciting time for our industry segment,” said Read. “Our new board is committed to educating the consumer and retailer about the benefits and values of specialty sleep products, and we will work closely with suppliers, manufacturers and retailers alike to get our message out.”
Read said a marketing program and public awareness initiative will begin this quarter. The group also is recruiting retailer and manufacturer participation in its activities.
Founded in 1995, the Specialty Sleep Assn. is not-for-profit organization created to facilitate the growth and positive awareness of the category. Its members develop and/or sell specialty sleep products, including air, flotation, latex, foam and adjustable sleep surfaces and related merchandise. SSA membership includes more than 100 manufacturers and retailers ranging from small, family-owned businesses to large corporations.
