Ethan Allen donates furniture to family in New Orleans

New Orleans — Retailer-manufacturer Ethan Allen helped furnish the home of a family here, devastated first by a death in the family and then the destruction of their home by Hurricane Katrina.
When the father of her three children was killed in a drive-by shooting 12 years ago, Donniecia Allen pressed on, working two jobs and taking business classes at night, determined to someday own a home for her family.
Four years ago, she bought a four-bedroom brick ranch home in Orleans Parish, but her dream was shattered when Hurricane Katrina hit. Her family lost everything and their home was deemed uninhabitable.
Thanks to a grant from Louisiana's The Road Home program, Allen has been reconstructing the home she worked so hard for, and has begun to move back in. She's decorating with help from Glamour magazine, with lifestyle editor Joanna Bober advising her.
Bober got in touch with Ethan Allen, and the company agreed to donate living room furniture. Glamour will unveil the newly renovated home in an upcoming issue.
"Everything Donniecia had worked so hard to achieve was destroyed," said Farah Kathwari, style director at Danbury, Conn.-based Ethan Allen. "When Joanna reached out to us to provide furnishings for the family's home, our style team quickly went to work, pulling together everything the Allens would need for a chic and eclectic family-friendly living room they could enjoy for years to come."
