Sleep Country USA collects goods, money for foster kids network
Jay McIntosh -- Furniture Today, February 24, 2008
Seattle — Mattress retailer Sleep Country USA's Foster Kids Program collected more than 51,000 items and $62,327 in cash in 2007, the third year the company has conducted the campaign to help foster organizations in its market areas.
"This amazing partnership with Sleep Country USA lets the children that we serve know they are cared for," said Meg Eberle director of the Foster Family Care Network.
"Our children often come from homes where they have been abused or neglected and they have many challenges when entering foster care," she said. "Receiving essential basics such as shoes, coats, school supplies and clothing helps our children feel comfortable with their peers and succeed in school. The opportunity to provide such items to our foster children brings a joy beyond words."
This year, Sleep Country USA has added a Pajama Drive, which runs through Feb. 25.
Last year, the retailer also partnered with the Wild Waves and Enchanted Village parks to provide 800 admission tickets for local foster families to help them enjoy a day of fun.
"We are warmed by and tremendously proud of the support we receive from our communities — businesses and individuals, and especially children that step up to help other children," said Terry Horsley, vice president of brand strategy at Sleep Country USA. "We'll strive to raise the percentage of donations again in 2008 and applaud in advance the continued support we know we'll get from generous donors."
