Linder's opens larger format

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. —
Linder's Furniture has soft-opened a 50,000-square-foot store here, the first of a new superstore format it plans to expand with this year.
The 10-store Top 100 company is leasing a former Wickes location, a showroom that's about double Linder's typical size, said President Eric Foucrier. He added that Linder's is hoping to open a couple more of the stores in its Southern California market, taking advantage of good deals on real estate.
In a release, Linder's CEO Phil Linder said the store is in a high visibility and traffic area and had been Wickes' top-producing showroom.
Foucrier said Linder's will use the added space to give consumers a better experience and to deliver more of the products they've been asking for. The lineup includes an expanded assortment of motion, leather upholstery and bedroom furniture, among other goods.
“We'll stay promotional, but we're stretching a little to better product,” Foucrier said.
For example, Linder's carries sofas from $399 to $1,299, but the new store will stretch to about $1,899. Bedroom groups run from $899 to $2,499, but the superstore is taking that up to about $3,999, he said.
In addition to a greater selection and style diversity, Foucrier said the move allows the retailer to offer more custom options
He said the new format also should increase the average ticket and is expected to improve the retailer's customer conversion rate by offering more options. It will include expanded offerings from the store's existing suppliers and also new sources, he said — although he declined to name new suppliers, saying that the company is still negotiating.
The superstore will grand-open March 4, and by early spring — possibly April — the company hopes to have a second superstore open.
The store also will host a Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America mobile showroom March 5-7, featuring the electronics supplier's latest offerings.
