I.O. Metro growing, to enter Atlanta in 3Q

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. —
Youthful retailer I.O. Metro, which opened its second Memphis, Tenn.-area store here last week, plans more expansion later this year.
In an e-mail to Furniture/Today, CEO Jay Howard said the now 16-store retailer aims to open two more stores in the Kansas City market in the second quarter and will enter the Atlanta market in the third quarter with three stores opening simultaneously.
In Collierville, the Rogers, Ark.-based company is opening a 15,000-square-foot showroom at The Avenue at Carriage Crossing. At a preview event tonight, the company is offering customers 25% off any one item and will give 10% of sales from the event to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Earlier, Howard said the company is thrilled with the new location.
“We believe the dynamic mix of retailers and specialty restaurants at The Avenue is a perfect fit for I.O. Metro and our customers,” he said.
The midpriced I.O. Metro is listed in Furniture/Today's Beyond the Top 100 report and has stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Howard said the company had sales in 2008 of about $20 million.
