NHFA adds pay-per-click Web option for retailers

LAS VEGAS —
The National Home Furnishings Assn. is giving its retailer members a pay-per-click option for participating in its HomeFurnishings.com consumer Web portal, officials said here during market.
Initially retailers could pay a flat fee to participate, but members were asking for the pay-per-click option, said Doug Kays, past NHFA chairman, who continues to spearhead the HomeFurnishings.com program for the retailer association.
The new option — with a minimal annual fee — is the preferred method of billing for most of the major search engines, Kays said.
What's more, it allows retailers to pay solely for results as consumers click through to their store microsites.
Depending on expected traffic, some retailers could end up paying more to go the pay-per-click route, so Kays said it's important for each retailer to evaluate the best option.
Since announcing the new option, NHFA has seen a spike in sign-ups, particularly among larger retailers, Kays said, adding that Rotman's of Worcester, Mass., and Fairborn, Ohio-based Morris Furniture are among five large stores that have recently signed onto the program.
