Berkeley Springs, W.Va. — Solid-wood manufacturer Caperton Furnitureworks has signed a licensing agreement with Mount Vernon Ladies Assn. to produce dining furniture based on the archives and history of George Washington's home.
When the collection debuts at the April High Point Market, Caperton will join a list of Mount Vernon licensees that includes upholstery by Taylor King, solid-wood bedroom by Durham Furniture, and antique reproductions by Kindel.
"It's a privilege to be associated with Mount Vernon and a great opportunity for us to promote their charter of sharing the history, life and times of our founding president and to share it with future generations," said Gat Caperton, president and CEO of Caperton Furnitureworks.
"Additionally, there is a historical connection with our region of West Virginia that makes this Mount Vernon association all the more special for us," he added. "More than two centuries ago, a young surveyor named George Washington surveyed our valley and walked the road that runs in front of our headquarters."
The first Mount Vernon dining group, a French-inspired group called the Marquis de Lafayette collection, will be unveiled in April.
