BOUNTIFUL, Utah —
Earl F. Hill, a longtime furniture store owner in Utah, has died. He was 87.
Hill's career in the furniture business spanned 55 years. He began working at his father-in-law's store, Union Furniture in Bountiful, in 1947.
Hill opened a second store with his brother-in-law in Layton, Utah, in 1953 and a third location in Roy, Utah, in 1957. Ten years later, he branched out on his own, opening Budget Furniture in Ogden, Utah. The store was renamed Hills Furniture in 1977 and Earl Hill ran the company with his sons and daughters until he retired at age 80 and sold the business to Salt Lake City-based John Paras Furniture.
Hill's son Larry owns Home Star Furniture and Mattress in Utah. Another son, Jay, is an independent furniture sales representative in Utah, as is a grandson, Jason Hill.
