Sav-Mart sale breaks records

Wenatchee, Wash. — Sav-Mart committed to a weeklong "End of Summer" promotion that broke sales records for the locally owned furniture retailer, which has operated here for 40 years.
"Competition here is really tough," said Karen Spragg, who spoke to Furniture/Today on her final day of work before retiring as advertising manager at Sav-Mart. "We have a lot of big box stores all around us — Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-Mart and Costco are some of them."
Spragg said the company started working with sales specialist Cosec International about a year ago and has done three sales so far.
"They send all the newspaper ads, already laid out, and the radio ads are all done, as well as the audio for the television, then the TV station adds the video," she said.
Determination and effort also were part of the equation for the End of Summer sale.
"It's a lot of work because every item in the store has to be repriced with the special sale tags they send, and even for a small store like ours that's 1,500 to 2,000 items," said Spragg. "But the outcome was phenomenal. It was the best week and the opening day was the best single day in the store's history."
