HIGH POINT — A group of supporters here is still seeking donations to save the historic Sherrod House after receiving an extension on a foreclosure deadline until March 9.
Audie Cashion, a local real estate professional who also is founder and co-director of the World Peace Center, said Wednesday that the group has commitments for $40,300.
"That's a long way from our $917,000 goal, but we're going to keep plugging," he said.
The house at 1100 N. Main St. is an Arts & Crafts home built in 1902 by entrepreneur and furniture manufacturer Archibald Sherrod. Cashion said a foreclosure sale could lead to the home's demolition. Years ago, a fast-food restaurant had expressed interest in putting a franchise there.
Donations would cover the cost of paying off the mortgage and upfitting the house for use for retail and nonprofit office space, Cashion said. One possible tenant is the World Peace Center, which according to its mission statement, "seeks to unify people and places of peace and purpose from around the world to implement the great solutions that are created."
Cashion said he can be contacted for more information or to make a tax-deductible donation at Audie@AlphaWP.com.
