UNION CITY, Calif. — Kinwai USA, a manufacturer of contemporary case goods, will hold a ribbon cutting for its new plant in Jiangman City, China, on March 21.
The 1 million-square-foot plant is similar in size to an existing plant on the same campus, according to a company statement.
The existing facility employs 2,100 people. With the opening of the new facility, Kinwai’s work force will grow to 4,500. Shipping capacity will grow to between 800 and 1,000 containers of finished product per month.
Case goods made at the new plant will feature solids and veneers for the U.S. and Canadian markets. It also will produce collections made with melamine for some select accounts.
The existing factory will continue to produce veneered products and some groups made with melamine.
The opening coincides with the company’s 15th anniversary as well as the March 18-21 China International Furniture Fair in Guangzhou. The company will show there in space 2.3 C01 at the Pazhou Complex.
“We believe that the fastest growing segment in furniture is contemporary furniture, which is our focus,” said Kinwai USA President Raymond Zhao in a statement. “Each year since our U.S. introduction a few years ago, we have experienced dramatic growth. We are making this major investment in capacity and state-of-the-art computer and robotic systems to accommodate anticipated future growth and to secure a leadership position for Kinwai in quality, pricing and customer service on an international scale.”
